Welcome to Always Play Blue, a place tucked away on the interweb, containing reviews and ramblings of an enthusiastic board gamer.
The aim of this site is just to collect my thoughts about the games I play with my small gaming groups, as well as share things like top 10 lists (who doesn’t like a good top 10), take a look at Kickstarters that might not get as much coverage, and discuss other things that spill out of this awesome hobby that I enjoy.
I remember owning a handful of games during my childhood. I had PAC-MAN, a weird Transformers game (which I still own the two white dice from), and TRAVEL BATTLESHIPS. Back in those days it was all MONOPOLY, CLUEDO, and RISK, with a side order of POP UP PIRATE.
My, how times have changed. Following a year of my friends coming round for nights of CARDS AGAINST HUMANITY and EXPLODING KITTENS, I discovered a work colleague who was more into gaming than me. One weekend I was invited to my first ever true gaming evening.
I somehow won ELYSIUM, discovered DEAD OF WINTER, learnt I wasn’t good at trading in CATAN, and enjoyed a relaxing journey in TOKAIDO.
And after receiving a copy of TICKET TO RIDE for Christmas 2018, my collection grew and grew and grew and . . .
Sure, there are always a few games on my Shelf Of Shame that have yet to see the table. But they’ll get their chance. It shouldn’t be too much longer until I get these games out and sit down with my gaming friends. And when I do, you can be sure of one thing . . .
